Williamson ton helps New Zealand draw with South Africa

Wellington: Kane Williamson’s brilliant fourth innings hundred helped the Kiwis manage a draw against the spirited South African team. The Proteas set a target of 389 runs for the Black Caps in the fourth innings and ensured that the home team will scramble for a draw.

The South African bowlers had their tail up as they knew that the Kiwis will play only for a draw and that allowed them to bowl to an attacking field. With the number one Test bowler, Dale Steyn and the sensational Vernon Philander in their ranks the Proteas would have hoped to dismantle the in-experienced batting line-up of the hosts. But, it was the tall fast bowler Morne Morkel who took the initiative and delivered early blows to the hosts.

The hosts were reeling at five for 83 and all the wickets were taken by Morkel. He however, was not finished as he took his sixth wicket and took the South African team to a winning position single-handedly.

From there on, Williamson held the fort at one end and played the best innings of his career to take the Kiwis out of the hole and took them to the desired result.
