Shreyas' knock was game-changer today, says Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli PC DharamsalaPort of Spain: Virat Kohli once again played a captain's knock (114 off 99 balls) while Shreyas Iyer rose to the occasion and scored a brisk half century (65 off 41 balls) as India beat West Indies by four wickets in the third ODI at Port of Spain on Wednesday. with this win India also won the series 2-0.

Kohli, who was both Man of the Match and Man of the Series, however said that it was Shreya's knock that was a game changer. "Last couple of games presented a challenge for me but Shreyas' knock was game-changer today."

On being asked if Iyer could bat a bit higher, Kohli said, "He has suddenly presented a role for himself, coming in and playing according to the situation. At no stage he looked like getting out."

Speaking about his thumb, the skipper said, "I don't think it's a fracture otherwise I wouldn't have continued. It's a just split of the nail. We were a bit nervous during the interruption due to rain, thinking they can take advantage as the outfield will be wet. But our bowlers did well. And now we are looking forward to the Test series."

Meanwhile, West Indies captain Jason Holder said, "I think the batters did a reasonable job. I thought we were always in the game. We put Kohli down early and he made us pay. We have let ourselves down a lot in the recent past. It's a matter of us to really sit down and think. There is a lot of work to be done at a level below us as well. Our regional cricket is not up to the mark as that of the rest of the world."
