India vs NZ 5th ODI: Kohli, Sharma, Mishra were the stars while Pandey, Rahane failed once again to impress

virat kohli indian cricketerNew Zealand succumbed to another defeat in the series of what has been an embarrassing experience for the Kiwis on their tour. Amit Mishra once again played a starring role for the Men-In-Blue with his 5/18 as they produced a convincing performance with both bat and ball to clinch the five-match series 3-2.

Here, we analyse the HITS and FLOPS among the Indian players from the 5th ODI at Vizag, the men who can walk with their heads held high and the men who let the country down.

HITS:-

Virat Kohli: With an evidence of the series tour so far, it is safe to say that Virat Kohli is an exceptional and an important player in the team. Virat’s innings of 65 off 76 deliveries was one of the reasons for the victory. Virat played some classy strokes to stabilise the innings along with captain cool who had promoted himself once again in the series.

Rohit Sharma: One can say that at last, the Hitman has found his stride as he came out of his bad patch to score a well compiled 70 of 65. Also, he played more sensibly and responsibly in this match, unlike the previous matches where he had failed to deliver the goods. Rohit hasn't been at his best in this series and has struggled for timing but the way he bounced back this match showed what a fighter he is.

Amit Mishra: He is certainly a future prospect to keep an eye on as he has proved that he has got the ability to pick up wickets with his conventional leg spin. The leggie got decent purchase off the surface and maintained a consistent line. He wasn't varying his pace so much which one should say is better than him trying to show his varieties. Him giving away runs doesn't really matter as long as he picks up important wickets for the team.

FLOPS

Ajinkya Rahane: The man from Maharashtra has been struggling to find form right from the start of the series, and has consistently flopped with the bat in this series. Rahane‘s lack of form this series could be costly for him as his spot is now up for grabs especially when players like Suresh Rainaand Shikhar Dhawan waiting in the wings.

Manish Pandey: What a difference a year can do to your confidence! Manish Pandey was India’s golden boy last year as he single-handedly carried the team to the victory against Australia in Sydney last summer. But right from the start of this tour, Manish has failed to rediscover his scoring touch, getting out for a duck in this match.
