Kohli loves taking on responsibilities. His overall average is a very respectable 45.06 in 45 Tests but he averages 54.62 from 14 Tests as skipper, having smashed 1147 runs in 21 innings, including a maiden double ton, which has come as India's Test captain.

Kohli took over the reins from Mahendra Singh Dhoni under exceptional circumstances. Kohli was told to lead the team for the Test series opener against the Australian National Team in their backyard since Dhoni was unavailable due to an injury. He, as a captain put up an impressive performance and earning the respect of the entire cricketing community. He scored 692 runs in that 4 match Test series becoming the highest run-getter for an Indian in Australia. Dhoni came back to lead the team in the second Test at Brisbane and Melbourne, before calling it quits from the longest format. He led with aplomb again, scoring another hundred in SCG, where India started off 2016 with a draw.

He continued his good form to win 2-1 against Sri Lanka and also drubbed South Africa 3-0 which gave him rave reviews. With the good run against the two giants, he also lead team India to an impressive victory against West Indies in their own backyard.

His overall win percentage as a Test captain is one among the highest even though he is in the early stages of his captaincy. Kohli makes things happen and under him, India are on ascent without fear of slipping or falling.
