TNPL: R Ashwin gets furious over proceedings in Dindigul Dragons vs Super Gillies encounter

Ashwin RavichandranHaving wrapped up his international commitments with a great outing in the West Indies where the Indians had comprehensively beaten the hosts in the Tests and went down fighting in the T20s and with India not having a game until the series against New Zealand in a few weeks time, Indian all-rounder R Ashwin has gone back to his home state of Tamil Nadu to feature in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. The league also features the likes of Murali Vijay, Dinesh Karthik and Lakshmipathy Balaji amongst a bunch of talented young cricketers from the state.

Representing the Dindigul Dragons franchise in the league, Ashwin was instrumental in the team managing to register a win in all their matches since the start to sit on top of the points table. However, the match on Thursday night saw his team go down to the Chepauk Super Gillies side captained by R Sathish by seven runs in a nail biting encounter.

The case in question is an ugly spat between two young local stars which took a turn to the worse when the bowler Sai Kishore of the Super Gillies pushed the batsman N Jagadeeshan of the Dragons out of frustration after dismissing him, with the later having laid the foundation of the chase with a well paced 60.

Ashwin, who was on the non-strikers end when the incident took place was not quite amused with the way the bowler had reacted to the dismissal and took it to the young bowler to express his displeasure but was quick to exhibit maturity and made the bowler understand the implications of his actions.

Now, that was well played by Ashwin. At the end of the day, the purpose of this league is to mix the international stars with the local talent pool so that they get to learn the tricks of the trade and master what it takes to make it big on the international stage. Hence, it was right on the part of Ashwin to calm things down and make the bowler commiserate for his actions.
