India vs West Indies 3rd Test, Day 1: Ashwin, Saha bat well to rescue India

Ashwin RavichandranGros Islet: After West Indies had put India on the back-foot by ripping off its top order, including KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma for just 126 runs, R Ashwin forged a fantastic 108-run sixth wicket partnership with Wridhiman Saha to rescue India on the first day of the thirds Test at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet on Tuesday.

Speaking about the day, KL Rahul, who had scored a half century, said, “I was pretty happy till I was batting. I wanted to put pressure on the bowlers and throw them off their lengths. I would have been happier had I got the three figure mark.”

He added, “The boys carried on from there and pretty happy with how we finished. I just wanted to attack the bowlers and put pressure. I went up and over the infield as the pitch was damp. The first one hour was damp and the ball was doing a bit with sideways movement. Initially with the new ball, Joseph bowled well. It was a great achievement to get Virat as his first Test wicket. He put the ball in the right areas.”
