Early days for Kohli, Dhoni still the right man to lead India in next World Cup: Sehwag

dhonidelightedKnown for his witty comments on his official twitter handle of late, former Indian star opener Virender Sehwag, who is also the proud owner of the highest individual score by an Indian in Tests, shot a rather important question while he was talking to a News Channel recently.

The question was to do with the captaincy at the next World Cup. This has been lingering in the minds of the Indian public for quite some time now as both MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli have contrasting styles and their captaincy results are entangling things into a mess all the more now.

While Indian limited overs skipper is the preferred choice, however, his results and tactics in the recent past have come under scrutiny and some of his decisions are highly debatable. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is having a ball with both his captaincy and his batting doing wonders for the team and at this very instant, there is a divided opinion on who should be at the helm for the next World Cup.

However, things might work out in Dhoni's favour by virtue of his sheer knowledge of the game, experience in handling crunch moments and his track record. It has to be admitted that Virat on the other hand gets carried away quite easily and that can prove to be detrimental in maintaining the morale of the side. Mind you, he has captained India to victory against lacklustre and second string opponents while MS Dhoni had to come face to face with top quality oppositions.

When Sehwag was asked to comment on this highly debated topic, he did not waste time in backing Dhoni to hold the reins for the next edition of the competition, citing his past performances and tremendous success in seeing off stiff competition. He went on to say that these are early days for Kohli and that he has a lot more to learn before he could take over the reins in the limited overs circuit.

Further, he added that Dhoni is a big match player and a true champion in his right and that it is not right for a World Cup winning captain to play under a newbie in the very competition where he stamped his authority in the 2011 edition of the championship.

With about three years to go for the competition, only time will have answers to all the questions and all we, the fans hope is for India to lift the coveted trophy once again!
