Mohali: Unbeaten ton (100 off 96 balls) by Mandeep Singh a fine half century by Uday Kaul (92 not out off 245 balls) helped Punjab score 235 for 2 against Railways on the first day of the Ranji Trophy match at PCA Stadium, Mohali on Thursday.
Skipper Yuvraj Singh won the toss and opted to bat on a docile Mohali wicket. Punjab opened with Manan Vohra and Jeevanjot Singh and lost Manan Vohra early at a total of 8 when he was run out for five runs.
Jeevanjot then in company of southpaw Uday Kaul added 49 runs for the second wicket before Jeevanjot was caught at short leg for 31 off 74 balls, inclusive of three boundaries off the bowling of Arnav Nandi.
At this stage Mandeep Singh joined Uday Kaul and the two started reconstructing the innings by judicious stroke play and added 178 runs for the unbeaten third wicket partnership.
Mandeep, who was more enterprising of the two, was able to reach his unbeaten century (100) off 196 balls, inclusive of 14 boundaries. Uday Kaul who kept in company was eight short of his 100 (92) off 245 balls with 9 boundaries when stumps were drawn for the day with Punjab 235 for 2 in 90 overs.
