Hyderabad: Indian team is back on the winning track after clinching the Test series against Australia by winning three consecutive Test matches. However, according to former India captain Sourav Ganguly, India should now focus on doing well on the foreign soils to regain the tag of world’s number one team.
Quoting the examples of England and South-Africa, who are doing well in both home and away from quite a sometime, Ganguly said, "England played really well in Indian conditions few months back and even South-Africa did well in Australia last summer. It’s India’s turn now, to live up to the expectation. That's very important for us.” India leads the series 3-0 after convincing wins in Chennai, Hyderabad and Mohali.
"I want to see Indian team at top and that’s very much possible with the new breed of players that we have found out and I know it very well that they need bit of time to get adjusted but they should always focus on being the world’s best team. They have grinded out the tough time in the past 18 months as they have seen back to back defeats on away tour but we shouldn’t forget that team is going through a transition phase and we need to be much patient," Ganguly said.
Sourav Ganguly told reporters at a commercial event that it will be a great achievement if the India whitewash Australia in the current series and it’s possibly the best reply of the last series that the hosts lost Down Under by 0-4. “Kotla has always been a happy hunting ground for Indian team and I hope this time it would be no different. But Indian team should apply themselves as it’s not an easy wicket to play on.”
Asked on what parameters he would rate the teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which starts next month, he said “It is always fun. Playing the IPL and watching it. It is difficult to say who will win in T20. T20 cricket is quite unpredictable as different teams have sprung up surprises in the past.”
