MC Mary Kom qualifies for London Olympics

MC Mary Kom qualifies for London OlympicsQinhuangdao (China): Indian woman boxer MC Mary Kom (51 kg) after much drama is finally on the road to London Olympics 2012.

Five times World champion Kom whose fate hung by a tread made it through only after World number 2 Nicola Adams who beat the Indian pugilist in the quarter final on Wednesday beat Russia’s World Champion Yelena Savelyeva  11-6 in the semi finals of the World Championships here today.

 

Women’s boxing which is making its debut in this year’s Olympics had two slots for Asia in the 51 kg category and one being already taken Asian Games gold medalist Ren Cancan of China who is also in the finals of the championship, Kom filled in the second spot. She was in fight with North Korea’s Hye Kim for the slot and fortunately for her Savelyeva who beat Kim in the quarters lost to Adams in the semis to make it possible for Kom to qualify.

"I was not tense before today's bout. There was no point in worrying about something that was not in my hands. I only thought about god. God has seen my struggle and I knew my hard work would not go waste just for one loss," said Mary Kom.
