Wuhan (China): China's star shuttler Lin Dan hopes to see World No.1 and fierce rival Lee Chong Wei in top form at the Olympic Games.

Lee Chong Wei, leading 2-1 in the first set, twisted his right ankle at the start of his Tuesday afternoon Thomas Cup match here against Danish veteran Peter Gade. Malaysia was beaten 2-3 and finished second in the pool behind Denmark.

The 29-year-old then lay down on the court with tears in the eyes. After receiving basic therapy, Lee retired from the match and went to the hospital in a wheelchair. He then pulled out of the competition and planned to head home Wednesday.

"With Olympics around the corner, I hope Lee can be back in his best form in London, because it may be the last Olympics for me, for him, for Taufik Hidayat (of Indonesia) and also Peter Gade," said the Chinese top player, who referred to Lee as an "old friend".

Lin, 28, breezed through Indonesia's world No.9 Simon Santoso with a score of 21-10, 21-17 to earn one point for reigning champions China. (IANS)
