Maharashtra’s junior cyclists win three gold

Pune: Maharashtra continued to reap gold with their junior cyclists picking up three gold medals in the Individual Time Trial events on Day 3 of the 16th National Road Cycling Championship at the 9-kilometer layout at Talawade MIDC, on Saturday.

 

With the championship shifted further out of the twin-township of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) it was a fruitful day for the hosts as Abhinandan Bhosale, Deepali Shildhankar and Rutuja Satpute won their respective events in the boys and girls sections.

The day overall had 6 events completed in the day. In the U-19 boy’s event run over 27-kilometers Abhinandan Bhosale did well to push back Rajasthan’s Suresh Bishnoi at the finish. Abhinandan clocked 39 minutes 27.27 seconds, while Suresh (40:19.650 minutes) came in a close second.

For Abhinandan the gold was his first in an individual event after he was part of the team trial event that won top spot.

The other two golds came in the girls section. In the Under-19s run Deepali Shildhankar (Maharashtra; 15 minutes 16.759s) won the one-lap 9-kilometer event with ease leaving behind Delhi’s Sujata Singh (15:25.799 min).

Later, in the Under-17 section Rutuja Satpute swelled Maharashtra’s tally to four winning her event in 15 minutes 09.21s, which was 10 seconds faster than second placed Anjitha AP.

The other two golds were claimed by Ameet (Services Sports Control Board) in the men’s section and Panna Choudhary (Rajasthan) in the women’s section.

Boys Under-15: 9-km Ind. Time Trial: 1-Sandeep (Haryana; 12 mins 44.95s); 2-Yellappa Hirabur (Karnataka; 14:01.42 mins); 3-Krishna Naikodi (Karnataka; 14:57.38 mins)

Girls Under-19: 9-km Ind. Time Trial: 1-Deepali Shildhankar (Maharashtra; 15:16.759 min); 2-Sujata Singh (Delhi; 15:25.799 min); 3-Anjitha AP (Kerala; 15:27.660 mins)
