ICC World T20: Villiers shines with bat, Morris with ball in South Africa’s win against Afghanistan

ab de villiersMumbai: AB de Villiers’ massive 64 runs off 29 balls helped the Proteas to clinch an easy win against Afghanistan on Sunday, March 20, 2016 in the 20th game of the tournament. South Africa batted first to put up a total of 209 for 5 wickets. Along with AB de Villiers it was Quinton de Kock who scored 45 off 31 balls to led South Africa to win the match by 37 runs.

Afghanistan did not leave it easy as Mohammad Shahzad entertained the audience by scoring a magnificient 44 runs off 19 balls which included 3 boundaries and 5 over the boundaries strokes. Noor Ali Zardan put up a score of 25 runs and Gulbadin Naib scored 26 out of 18 balls. Shenwari hit 3 huge sixes and all these helped Afghanistan to manage 172/10 in 20 overs .

Yet all these could not stop the Proteas. The victory finally fell on Faf du Plessis and his team. Chris Morris was quite well with the ball as he took four wickets in exchange of 27 runs in 4 overs. Rabada and Abbott clinched two wickets each.

South Africa started the match with full confidence. They were quite well with the bat. Quinton de Kock added 45 runs in the scoreboard. Among the Afghan bowlers, Amir hamza, Dawlat Zadran, Mohammad Nabi each managed a wicket. The bowling side of the Afghans lacked momentum this day.

This was a much needed win for the Proteas after their defeat to England. The South Africans must have traced back their lost confidence after this win.
