PGTI Feeder Tour: Five golfers lead on day 1

PGTI Feeder Tour: Five in joint clubhouse lead on day 1 Faridabad: The five golfers in the joint clubhouse lead on day one of the PGTI Feeder Tour event being played at the Aravalli Golf Club in Faridabad, Haryana, were Ramesh Kumar of Faridabad, Raj Kumar Rawat of Lucknow, Delhi’s Pawan Verma, Meerut golfer Sudhir Sharma and Damodar Kumawat of Jaipur. The leading pack shot matching scores of one-under-45.

Heavy rain on Monday night and Tuesday morning caused waterlogging on the fairways. Therefore four holes – third, seventh, 12th and 16th – could not be played, while the par for the first, second, eighth, 10th, 11th and 17th holes had to be reduced. As a result, the par for round one was 46 instead of the usual 72. Round one could not be completed on Tuesday as only 42 golfers out of 72 submitted their cards. The first round will resume on Wednesday morning.

Local lad Ramesh Kumar enjoyed a great start as he hit it within five feet on the second and sixth to set up birdies. He then picked up another birdie with the help of a magnificent second shot from 80 yards that landed within two feet of the pin. Ramesh had a contrasting back-nine as he bogeyed the 14th and 18th. However, his score of one-under was good enough to give him the joint clubhouse lead on day one.

“My hitting was very good today. I hit it quite close. This is a good start to the event and keeps me in contention. I want to perform well on my home course and make an impact on the Order of Merit,” said Ramesh.

Among the other joint leaders, Sudhir Sharma and Damodar Kumawat also had three birdies and two bogeys, while Raj Kumar Rawat made three birdies and a double-bogey and Pawan Verma made four birdies against three bogeys.

Abhinav Lohan of Faridabad is in tied sixth at even-par-46 along with Pranav Kaul, Amardeep Rawat and Punir Rohitkumar Mehta.
