Indian tennis has been going through a tough time and the drama doesn’t seem to end. Now, the national selector Rohit Rajpal has been sent to London to convince him to team up with Vishnu Vardhan in the London Olympics, says a reports in The Times of India.
Rajpal however said that it is a personal visit and not as an emissary for the All India Tennis Association. The report also says that Leander Paes has refused t meet the national selector.
Meanwhile a report in The DNA said that after the selection drama peace prevailed in the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) premises.
But all doesn’t seem to be OK as there has not been any reaction from the Leander Paes camp and that causes a concern. Report said that Paes wants a written assurance from AITA that Sania Mirza will partner him in the mixed doubles category.
Meanwhile sports minister Ajay Maken and External affairs minister SM Krishna have advices the tennis players to keep their egos aside and play for their country in the upcoming London Olympics, says a report in The Hindustan Times.
Maken has said that the ministry shouldn’t get involved in the selection process as it is not their job and said that all these things should have been sorted a long time back. Maken said that 'Lakshman rekha' and noon should cross that. SM Krishna on the other hand advised the tennis players to shed "individual egos" and play to bring laurels to the country. He said that we have to ensure that we send a good team in the Olympics and the sole objective for the players should be to win a medal.
