Women’s Pro Golf Tour 2016: Neha eyes hat-trick at BPGC

Neha Tripathi 26Mumbai: After consecutive victories in the last two events, Neha Tripathi will look to keep the momentum going and will aim for her third title on the trot in the fifth Leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club. The INR 6,00,000 event will see 18 professionals vying for the top honours and will be played from 23rd – 25th February.

Neha is currently placed third in the Hero Order of Merit with total earnings of INR 2,78,500 in four appearances and will be eager to continue the winning run. However, the professional from Kolkata will be up against a strong field and will face a stiff challenge from the likes of Smriti Mehra, Kiran Matharu, Sharmila Nicollet and Gursimar Badwal.

Overseas player Kiran Matharu currently leads the Hero Order of Merit with total earnings of INR 3,16,000 with two runner-up finishes in four appearances. She is yet to win a title this season and will be keen to break the jinx at this event. Gursimar Badwal has been a consistent performer on the Tour but has struggled to capitalise on some crucial situations in the field. The professional from Kapurthala will be eager to make amends and will push for her maiden professional title.

Kolkata’s Smriti Mehra, placed sixth on the money list with total earnings of INR 2,43,300, hasn't been at her best in the present season and will be eyeing a turnaround at BPGC. Hero Motocorp sponsored Bengaluru golfer Sharmila Nicollet has only played in the last two events and is still searching for her first victory. She would be keen to end the drought with a win in Mumbai. This event will also see Sonam Chugh, a well known name in corporate golf, making her debut as a professional on the Tour. Other golfers to watch out for are Pune’s Shweta Galande, Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma and the Delhi duo of Ankita Tiwana and Mehar Atwal.

The Bombay Presidency Golf Club is one of the oldest and most renowned golf courses in Mumbai. The picturesque par 70 golf course is all set to test the players with its tight fairways and unpredictable sea breeze.
