Asian Junior Chess: Indians steal the show

New Delhi: Indians once again proved its growing superiority in the age group championships as they won 11 Gold, 12 Silver and 10 Bronze out of the 36 at stake in the Asian School Chess Championship here at Indira Gandhi Stadium on Thursday.


Wankhade Sanskruti (Girls Under-5); Vallabh Kavi (Open Under-5); Arushi Kotwal (Girls Under-7); Vantika Agarwal (Girls Under-9); Ram Aravind L N (Open Under-9); Tarini Goyal (Girls Under-11); Abhishek A (Open Under-11); Smaraki Mohanty (Girls Under-13); Diptayan Ghosh (Open Under-13); Madhurima Shekhar (Girls Under-15) and Girish A Koushik (Open Under-15) provided the golden colour to the Indian Medal tally, while Darsana M S (Girls Under-5); Suyash Pai (Under-5 Open); Niranjana Aishwarya Dass (Girls Under-7); Kushagra Mohan (Open Under-7); Samridhha Ghosh (Girls Under-9); Iniyan P (Open Under-9); Khushi Dharewa (Girls Under-11); Barath Kalyan (Open Under-11); Shweta Priyadharshini (Girls Under-13); Aravindh Chithambaram V R (Open Under-13); Nandhidhaa P V (Girls Under-15) and Anish Gandhi (Open Under-15) won the silver medal for the country.

Apart from open sections of Under-5 and Under-7 India sweeps all the medals.  In the befitting closing ceremony, Desh Deepak Verma, IAS, Director General, Sports Authority of India and Hisham Al-Taher, General Secretary Asian Chess Federation give away the prizes in presence of Bharat Singh Chauhan, Secretary All India Chess Federation, Luxman Wijesuriya, Vice President Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and Husan H Turdialiev, Co-Chairman of Chess Federation of Uzbekistan.
