football icon 2Chennaiyin FC beat FC Pune City by 2-1 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. Bernard Mendy put ahead the home team after scoring a header through a perfect long throw-in by fellow defender Dhanachandra Singh in the 33rd minute. Stiven Mendoza extended the lead Chennaiyin FC at just the start of the 2nd half in the 48 minute. Kalu Uche (FC Pune City) netted the ball at 74 minutes for Pune City and reduced the margin to 1-2.

Here are the hits and flops from the match.

HITS

Bernard Mendy (Chennaiyin FC):-Surely this was one of the best matches for the French defender. He went on to perform his job quiet sincerely and was solid at the back, giving the Pune FC’s forwards a tough time. Apart, he scored a beautiful goal for his team through a classic header. He was undoubtedly “Hero of the Match”.

Steve Simonsen (FC Pune City):-It was a very busy and hard day for the English goalkeeper. The poor defence from his teammates made things hard for Simonsen and had it not been for his heroics, the Pune outfit would have lost by a big margin. His accurate judgment made scoring a challenge for the home team. He made some crucial and excellent saves, though he could not have done much in the two goals that Chennai team scored.

FLOPS

Manuele Blasi (Chennaiyin FC):-The midfielder started his evening with a booking. Along with this incident, he was disappointing in the whole match. He surely has the potential for performing better than this.

Nicky Shorey (FC Pune City):-Nicky Shorey didn’t perform up to his level in this match. The 34-year-old left-back was totally clueless throughout the match. He struggled and totally failed to fulfill his role in this match. He needs to improve, specially on his fitness level for the upcoming matches.
