Lucknow: Shweta Galande carded two over 72 to take the lead on the second day of the 16th leg of the Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour at The Palms Golf Club & Resort here on Friday. Trailing her by a margin of one shot is Kolkata’s Smriti Mehra with a total score of 142 after 36 holes. The INR 6,00,000 event will culminate on Saturday.
Pune’s Shweta Galande had a good start, carding a birdie on the very first hole. However, she could not sustain the momentum and carded four continuous bogeys on the 6th,7th,8th and 9th holes in her front nine. She played a more controlled back nine, with birdies on the 14th and 15th holes and a bogey on the 11th. She ended the second round with a total score of 141.
Overnight leader Smriti Mehra carded five over 75 to take the second position after the second round. She would have hoped for a better day as her lone birdie of the round came on the 9th hole. She made a string of errors on the 4th,5th,7th,8th,13th and 14th holes. Delhi’s Vani Kapoor carded four over 74 to take the third place after 36 holes. She carded a birdie on the first hole, but thereafter struggled to stitch together a series of consistent shots, with bogeys on the 13th,14th and 16th holes, and also a double on the 10th.
Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal finished her day in fourth position with a total score of 145. She carded two birdies on the 10th and 16th holes, while dropping shots on the 4th,9th,12th,14th and 17th. She also carded a double bogey on the 6th hole.
Overseas player Kiran Matharu is placed fifth after 36 holes with a total score of 146. She is followed by Panchkula’s Amandeep drall in sixth position with a score of 147, and Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana in seventh at 148.
