Hingis-Sania pair continue their dominance in Australian Open; win 3rd grand slam in a row

sania mirza martina hingisMelbourne: Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza defeated Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka, 7-6(1), 6-3 in the Australian Open final to add another title to their collection.

The Indo-Swiss pair dropped just one set throughout the fortnight and have won of the four Grand Slams, including the Wimbledon and then the US Open last summer. The World No. 1 pair are also in a 36-match winning streak, a run stretching back to August 2015.

Hlavackova and Hradecka, however, made Santina sweat in the first set. They broke Santina four times and served for the set at 5-4. However, the top seeds showed their class once again as Mirza and Hingis went on to win the set 7-6 (1).

The Czechs suffered a further setback at the start of the second set as Hlavackova hit a backhand a bit too long to hand over an immediate break. A second soon followed, and despite reducing their arrears to 4-2 the No.7 seeds were merely delaying the inevitable.
