Focus on final competition leg for Rio OG Qualification at Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon 3rd & 4th Indian Grand Prix

Bangalore: Around 100 athletes, including National campers in selected events, athletes from Maldives and Sri Lanka will compete in the final qualification competitions for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the 3rd and 4th Indian Grand Prix to be held here on July 10 and July 11 respectively.

A total of 23 events – 13 for men and 10 for women – will feature in both the Grand Prix being held at the Shree Kanteerava Stadium.

The organizers of the Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon are the proud presenter of the 3rd and 4th Indian Grand Prix at Bangalore.

On this occasion, the Athletics Federation of India Secretary C.K. Valson said, “We are extremely delighted that 24 athletes have already qualified for the Rio Olympic Games in individual events and the women’s 4x400m relay team is ranked world No. 13 and fulfills the qualification criteria. I’m extremely thankful to Mr Nagaraj Adiga and Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon organisers for supporting our athletes to attain the qualifying marks for Rio at the 3rd and 4th Indian Grand Prix. On behalf of the AFI, I also take this opportunity to congratulate all those athletes who have already qualified and extend my best wishes to those who will be contention over the next two days.”

Valson also thanked the Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India for extending their support for the conduct of the 3rd and 4th Indian Grand Prix. He also thanked the Karnataka State Athletics Association President and Hon’ble Home Minister of Karnataka, Dr G. Parameshwara, and Secretary, Mr N. Chandrasekhar Rai for hosting the 3rd and 4th Indian Grand Prix.
