Paris: Somdev Devvarman was no match for former No. 1 and legendary Roger Federer as he lost the second round French Open match 2-6, 1-6 and 1-6 here on Wednesday.
He failed to put fight against the World Number 3 as Federer won the match in just one hour and 22 minutes.
Federer broke Somdev’s serve at his will. Somdev got to break Federer’s serve thrice in the first couple of sets but he failed to make it count each time.
Federer will next play French 30th seed Julien Benneteau, who defeated Tobias Kamke of Germany 7-6(9), 7-5, 5-7, 0-6, 6-4, in the third round.
Meanwhile, the wild card entry Gael Monfils has also made it to the third round of French Open after defeating Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-2 Wednesday.
Monfils couldn’t make to the French open last year because of a right knee injury. His best showing at Roland Garros was a semi-final finish in 2008.
The last Frenchman to win at Roland Garros was Yannick Noah in 1983.
