Paes to face Bopanna in US Open mixed doubles semifinal

Leander Paes at the press conference of Premier Tennis LeagueNew York: India's Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes will clash in the mixed doubles semi-final after they won their respective quarterfinal matches of the US Open in New York on Monday.

The fourth seeded pair of Leander Paes and Martina Hingis advanced to the semi-finals after receiving a walk-over from the Romanian pair of Simona Halep and Horia Tecau in the last-eight encounter.


Meanwhile, Bopanna and his Chinese Taipei partner Yung-Jan Chan had to battle hard against Su-Wei Hsieh, also of Chinese Taipei, and Henri Kontinen of Finland. Bopanna-Chan beat Hsieh and Kontinen 7-6, 5-7, 13-11 in a one hour, 50 minute.

Meanwhile, Bopanna also booked a quarterfinal berth in the men's doubles along with Romanian partner Florin Mergea. The duo beat Canada's Daniel Nestor and Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 in a match that lasted just over two hours. The Indo-Romanian duo will face Dominic Inglot of Great Britain and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden in the last-eight encounter.
