New Haven Open: Sania-Zheng win title

New Haven Open: Sania-Zheng win titleNew Haven: Sania Mirza finally claimed the third title of the season as she won the final match of WTA New Haven Open women’s doubles category with her new partner Jie Zheng China on Sunday. This third seed Indo-China were playing their fourth event as a pair and managed to outwit the second-seeded pair of Anabel Medina Garrigues and Katarina Srebotnik in straight sets by 6-3, 6-4.

Mirza-Zheng didn’t have an ideal start in this contest as they were lagging behind to an early break but after 3-3 they won six games out of the seven, which also allowed them to breeze through the opening set.

Though, they were cruising at 5-2 in the second set, the last minute resistance from the second-seeded duo did give them a tough time as they won couple of games and made this clash much intense that it was looking after the first set.

But ultimately, Indo-Chinese duo finished off the triumph on their fifth match point.

Mirza was quite happy after winning this New Havens title and was quoted by www.wtatennis.com saying, "We didn't start the tournament too well, winning a couple of what you might call ugly matches. But we kept getting better with each match. It was great to play our best match in the final.

She added, "It's tough with this format. It's relentless. There's really no margin of error with the deuce points, the super tie-break. It's just a toss-up sometimes. Even today's match was 6-3, 6-4, but it was much tighter with the deuce points. The last set we won three deuce games."

This was Saina’s fourth final this year and she has also won two titles this season before this one when she paired up with American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
