Dean Jones asks Australia to follow England’s tactics for success against India

Veteran Australian cricketer Dean Jones believes that if Australia would follow the tactics of England then they have a fair amount of chance to win the upcoming series against India.
"Australia would do well to replicate England's recent bowling attack in India -- two quick bowlers, two specialist spinners and a part-timer," Jones wrote in 'The Sydney Morning Herald'.

"India's formula has been to have an opening bowling pair, then two specialist spinners and a part-timer to do some work when required. Last year, England replicated the 'Indian theory', and outplayed them to claim 2-1 series win. I feel Australia should do the same," he said.

He added,” Australia should go with the regular opening pair of David Warner and Shane Watson which is to be followed by Ed Cowan, Philip Hughes Matthew Wade and Michael Clarke. It’s better to go with Glenn Maxwell who can be very handy in sub-continent conditions not only with the ball but also with the bat. In bowling attack, they should start with two quick bowlers and two spinners so that Indian batsmen won’t get much breathing space.”

The four-Test series starts on February 22 in Chennai and India would be under immense pressure after the debacle against England.

Jones said the Australians would also be under scrutiny and the performance in these Tests would give an idea about the side's progress.

"The Australian tour to India this month will be a great examination of where this team is, mentally and physically. It is going to be tough. The triumph in 2004 was Australia's only series win in India since 1969," he wrote.

"Playing Test cricket in India is a real fitness test because of the heat, and add to that the turning pitches and our poor record, this series will be a very tough for everyone. Patience will be the key to the success." he said.
