Guron misses quota place for Olympics

Another shooter narrowly missed the chance to secure the quota place for the Olympics in the 12th Asian shooting championship in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday. Parampal Singh Guron missed the men's skeet final and with that missed the chance to to claim one of the four Olympic quota places, reports The Hindu. Guron shot 120 out of 125, but missed the final by just one point.

Riya Bhatia extended her stay in the girls' first round of the ITF juniors Grade II tennis after defeating Ann-Christin Nilsson from Germany 6-2, 6-3. Riya will have a tough pre-quarterfinal match against the third-seeded Oleksandra Korashvili from Ukraine, reports The Hindu.

Indian opener Gautam Gambhir came out with a statement in The Times of India saying that no particular player should be blamed for India’s poor performance and it’s the entire team that should be blamed. He supported VVS Laxman and said that he has been a prolific run scorer over the years and it’s him who should decide that when he is going to leave the cricket field.

 

Ex Indian captain Sourav Ganguly in his column in The Hindustan Times wrote that Indian selectors have a real tough task ahead of them and they should take some harsh decisions. He wrote that the selectors should not follow the technique of hiding from taking tough decision and come out to send a strong message and only that can take Indian cricket forward.
