abhinav bindra Rio de janeiro: India did not have much to write about on Day 2 of Rio Olympics, except for the performance from gymnast Dipa Karmakar and the Indian women hockey team, which brought some cheers for the country on Sunday. Dipa Karmakar, India’s first ever female gymnast at the Olympics, became the first Indian to qualify for the apparatus finals of artistic gymnastics at the Rio Olympics, while Indian women hockey team came up with a spirited performance and after being 0-2 down, coming back to draw with Japan 2-2 in their Pool B opener.

On Monday, India will see its contention in shooting with Beijing Olympics gold medal winner Abhinav Bindra in fray along with Gagan Narang in 10m Air Rifle, while the Indian men's hockey team will be up against the defending Olympic champions Germany. The Indian women's hockey team will play against Great Britain early on Tuesday. Also in action will be Shivani Kataria (200m freestyle) and Sajan Prakash (200m butterfly). Catch the action live:

Indian women's hockey team had a forgettable outing against Britain as it lost 0-3 in the Pool B match.

Sajan Prakash fails to qualify for the semi-finals of the men's 200 metre butterfly. Prakash clocked 1:59.37 in Heat 1 finishing fourth. The effort wasn’t enough to see him through as he finished with an overall ranking of 28 out of 29 participants.
