French Open: Radwanska, Serena in quarters

serena williams in quarter finals of French openParis: Agnieszka Radwanska has reached the quarterfinals of French open as by beating 2008 champion, Ana Ivanovic, of Serbia 6-2, 6-4 on Sunday. This is the first time that Polish has managed to make it to the quarter-finals of Roland Garros. She will now face off the yesteryear’s runner-up, Sara Errani of Italy.
 

Fourth-seeded, Agnieszka, made the most of the break point and ended up converting as much as five of her nine break-point opportunities to reach the last eight of French Open. She has won her all last seven matches that she had played against Ivanovic.


In the other women’s tie, fifth-seeded Errani had a bit of tough time but managed to pull out a win 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 against, Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro.


Meanwhile, Serena Williams extended her career-best winning streak to 28 matches as he ousted Roberta Vinci 6-1, 6-3 on Sunday to seal her berth for the quarter-finals. American has been brilliant so far in this tournament as she had lost just 10 games in four rounds.


Williams has grown from strength to strength and has improved 20-0 on clay. She is having a dream run since losing in the first round a year ago at Roland Garros. She will now go head to head against the former champion, Svetlana Kuznetsova, in the quarter-final match. She won her lone Roland Garros title in 2002.


In the other match of women’s category, Svetlana Kuznetsova, 2009 Champion, had a tough outing against Angelique Kerber but she managed to make it to the quarter-finals on Sunday at French open. She defeated her in the match that went to the third set 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on Sunday.
