Narsingh Yadav’s case has been referred to Central Bureau of Investigation: WFI president

Narsingh Yadav RioNew Delhi: Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh on Friday confirmed that wrestler Narsingh Yadav’s case has been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to find out the truth.

The Wrestling Federation of India president had met the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) after arriving from Rio and requested the case of Narsingh Yadav to be forwarded to CBI for further investigation.

Narsingh Yadav was reportedly tested positive for a banned substance and his participation in the Rio Olympics was under a cloud. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) had found two samples taken from Yadav, who had qualified to represent Indian in the 74kg freestyle, positive for dope. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) conducted a random dope test on Yadav on July 5 at the Sports Authority of India's (SAI) regional centre in Sonepat. The report of his 'A' sample test came out positive. Later, he was called for his 'B' sample test, which also returned positive.

Later, though Yadav was exonerated of doping charges by the National Anti-doping Agency (NADA), its parent world body World anti-Doping Agency (WADA) had appealed against the NADA panel’s decision at Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) just three days ahead of his scheduled opening bout at the Rio Olympics, following which Yadav was slapped with a four-year ban for flunking a dope test after CAS overturned the clean chit given to him by the National Anti-Doping Agency disciplinary panel.
