India plays 3-3 draw against HGC Hockey Club in their second build-up game of European Tour

New Delhi: Indian Men Hockey team put up tough fight in their second build-up game of the Europe Tour as they tied at 3-3 against HGC Hockey Club (Dutch National Club) played at The Netherlands on 14 April 2014. This tour is in preparations for the FIH Men’s World Cup 2014, scheduled to be held at The Hague, Netherlands from 31 May -15 June 2014.

HGC Hockey Club opened up the score board as early as in the 6th minute of the match and managed to pierce in another goal in the 24th minute which helped them dominate the game with a 2-0 on board by the end of the first half of the game.

India fought back remarkably in the second half of the game as they restricted HGC Hockey Club from doing any further damage. The Indian squad turned the tables in their favour, to HGC Hockey Club’s surprise when Rupinder Pal Singh made no mistake in converting a penalty corner in the 50th minute, shortly followed by a field goal in the 56th minute through Nikkin Thimmaiah and V R Raghunath’s successful penalty corner in the 63rd minute which swept away the lead form HGC Hockey Club by 3-2. The final strike came in from HGC Hockey Club in the 64th minute which leveled the scores at 3-3 till the end of the match.

India’s defence and goalkeeper P R Sreejesh proved their ability to be at par, as HGC Hockey Club got 10 penalty corner opportunities out of which they managed to convert only two.
