Hero-Oxford Women's Pro Golf: Vaishavi retains lead on day 2

Vaishavi in actionPune: Vaishavi Sinha managed to keep her lead despite carding 3 over 75 on the second day of the Hero-Oxford Women’s Pro Golf Championship. Trailing Vaishavi by a single stroke are Vani Kapoor and Gursimar Badwal, who are tied for the second spot with identical scores of 144 after 36 holes. The INR 6,00,000 event is being played at the Oxford Golf & Country Club, Pune and will culminate on 27th February.

Overnight leader Vaishavi Sinha had an indifferent day on the field as she carded four bogies on the 2nd, 8th, 11th and 13th holes. However, thanks to her lone birdie on the 12th hole, she managed to maintain her lead with a total score of 143 after the second round. Hero Order of Merit Leader Vani Kapoor played a bogey-free front nine with a birdie on the 4th hole. However, she could not sustain the momentum in the latter half, carding two bogies on the 13th and 16th holes with an equal number of birdies on the 10th and 17th holes. She finished with a score of 1 under 71. Kapurthala golfer Gursimar Badwal played a round of 2 under 70, carding three birdies on the 2nd, 9th and 16th holes while dropping just one shot on the 4th hole.


Veteran Smriti Mehra, Panchkula golfer Amandeep Drall and Indian origin English golfer Kiran Matharu are tied for the fourth spot with identical scores of 145 after 36 holes. Smriti Mehra played the best round of the day, carding 3 under 69 with five birdies on the 2nd, 9th, 13th, 15th and 17th holes while dropping shots on the 12th and 18th holes. Rookie Amandeep Drall too made a strong come back, playing a card of 2 under 70. She carded three birdies on the 2nd, 15th and 17th holes with a lone bogey on the 12th hole. Kiran Matharu carded five birdies on the 2nd, 8th, 9th, 15th and 17th holes. However, bogies on the 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th and 18th holes along with double bogey on the 11th hole marred her score card and she had to be content with a score of 3 over 75 in the second round.

Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi is placed seventh with a total score of 146. She carded three bogies on the 4th, 12th and 13th holes with her lone birdie on the 15th hole. She finished the day with a score of 2 over 74. She is followed by local player Shweta Galande and Hero MotoCorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet, who are tied eighth with identical scores of 150 after two rounds.
