New York: Maria Sharapova who was not able to get past the US Open pre-quarterfinals for last six years since winning here in 2006 has finally broken the jinx. She beat Nadia Petrova 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to make it to the last 16 of the tournament here.
The third-seeded Sharapova will now take on Marion Bartoli in the quarterfinals whobeat TPetra Kvitova 1-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Meanwhile in another match, top seeded Victoria Azarenka defeated Anna Tatishvili 6-2, 6-2. Azarenka will now be up against Samantha Stosur who beat the giant killer Laura Robson 6-4,6-4.
