Valentina Gunina leads in World Chess Blitz Championship

Batumi: Valentina Gunina of Russia won all the eight games on the first day of the two-day women's World Chess Blitz Championship tourney, to lead with eight points.

The Russian international master was this year's European individual chess champion.

Sharing the temporary second place were Mariya Muzychuk of Ukraine, Nana Dzagnidze from hosts Georgia, Anna Muzychuk from Slovenia and Natalia Zhukova from Ukraine, all with six points.

On the temporary third tier were Huang Qian of China and Nino Batsiashvili from hosts Georgia, both with 5.5 points.

All players will have to play seven more rounds of games Tuesday before the championship title can be decided, Xinhua reported.

The time allowance for the tournament is four minutes, with two seconds permitted for each additional moves.

Bulgaria's Stefanova Antoaneta, 2004 World Champion, Sunday captured the women's World Rapid Chess Championship title by extending her unbeaten record to 11th. (IANS)
