F1: Narain Karthikeyan joins Spanish outfit HRT

New Delhi: Narain Karthikeyan will complete Spanish outfit HRT F1 team’s lineup along with Spanish Driver Pedro de la Rosa for the 2012 season. He first joined the HRT team in 2011 and took part in nine races. They will will contest 2012 FIA Formula One Championship at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, Australia on March 16, 2012.

He along with Spanish Driver Pedro de la Rosa This will be his second season with the Spanish squad; he last participated with this team in the Indian Grand Prix last year. He will be the only driver representing India in F1. 

“I was pleased with our strong performance in the inaugural Indian Grand Prix; it was a great feeling when I performed well in front of my home crowd. I was not the only driver in consideration for the spot and I am happy that HRT chose me over other”, said Karthikeyan.

He added “I am delighted to have signed with the HRT F1 Team. We need to understand that F1 is new to India; we hosted our first race only last year which was a resounding success. I am proud to secure an opportunity to forge a stronger connection between India and Formula 1 once again.”

Narain is set to join the team for the second tests in Barcelona, which will be held from the 21st to the 24th Feb. at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Narain made history at the Buddh International Circuit when he became the first and only local driver to race at the Indian Grand Prix.
