London Olympics: Indian stars in fray on Day 5

It is the fifth day of the London Olympics and the Indian athletes had a good outing yesterday with Gagan Narang finally got India’s name on the medals tally by winning bronze in the 10 metre Air Rifle event. Barring few disappointments, India had a fairly good outing and they would look to continue their good run today.

Here are the events that would see Indian starts aiming for glory

Archery

Men's Individual 1/32 Elimination Round:
India did not have much luck with the archery event and after both the men’s and women’s team event loss; yesterday India’s Laishram Bombayla Devi was eliminated from the Olympics. So today Indian archers would enter the Lord’s Ground with an aim to bring some cheer to the Archery contingent with individual recurve event in both men’s and women’s category.

Badminton

Men's singles Group D match:
After a good start to the event, India’s shuttler Parupalli Kashyap will go up against Tien Minh Nyugen of Vietnam hoping to move into the knockout round.

From the women’s doubles circuit, Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponappa would take on Shinta Mulia Sari-Lei Yao of Singapore in a do-or-die as this match would decide Indian pair’s fate in the event.

In the mixed doubles event, Jwala Gutta-V Diju would team up against Jung Eun Ha/Jung Eun Ha in a match which looks inconsequential for the Indian pair as they already faced two defeats and are virtually out of the mega event.

Boxing
From the boxing arena, Laishram Devendro Singh will start his campaign in the men’s light fly weight category (49kgs) in the round of 32. He would go up against Bayron Molina Figueroa of Honduras (7 pm)
In the men’s light-welter weight category (64kgs) of round 32, India’s Manoj Kumar will take on Serdar Hudayberdiyev. (2 am onwards Wednesday)

Rowing
After qualifying for the quarterfinals, Indian Swarn Singh will take part in the men’s Single Sculls Repechage quarter finals event. (2:20 pm)

In the Men's Lightweight Double Sculls Repechage, Sandeep Kumar/Mandeep Singh will be seen in action. (3 pm)

Weightlifting
India would start their weightlifting campaign today with Katulu Ravi Kumar taking part in the Men’s 69 kgs freestyle wrestling. (2:30 pm)
