Mumbai: Willy Warriors Gang held on to the first position to qualify for the cavalry round even after the final day of second infantry round at Puravankara Touché Golf League West Zone at Bombay Presidency Golf Club. It was difficult for any other gang to take the 36 shots lead from Warriors who ended the round with two days total of 1698. Mumbai Mauraders came pretty close after their second place finish at 842-over for the total of 1725. Warriors and Mauraders both qualified for the cavalry round along with Pune Pirates and Pune Devils.
Pirates and Devils sat on the edge of the 18th green the entire day as their results were depending on the remaining 11 gangs who were fighting against the top four spots today. At the end of the day, it was only Mauraders who jumped into the second place to move Pirates to third spot by 10 shots. Pirates finished at 1735 after their two rounds. Pune Devils who already booked their accommodation at RCGC for three days to participate in the cavalry round, slipped to the fourth rank with the score of 1736.
The captain of the runners-up Gang Uday Gandoak kept treating his gang with beers after the final scores had come. Gandoak said, “I am so excited to see my gang making it for the cavalry round. All 16 of us have been practically grown up together playing golf and whenever we go to Goa for a golfing holiday, we all go together. As per the day goes, we started the day with 16-stroke penalty as there were some issues with our respective handicaps but I knew that if we are playing at our home course, we are going to blast. If we have done so well even after so many ups and downs, I am sure we will be having another celebration tomorrow after getting into the gladiator round.”
The Bombay presidency Golf Course will stage the west zone cavalry round tomorrow in a match play format. There will be 50-50 chances for both Pune and Mumbai as there are two gangs from Pune and two from Mumbai are going to participate. Only one gang will then qualify for the Gladiator round.
