Alcorcon (Spain): Two late goals by Ibai Gomez allowed Alaves to defeat Alcorcon 2-0 in the first leg of a Copa del Rey quarter-final football match at the Santo Domingo stadium here.

Alaves dominated possession in the first half on Wednesday but the well organised hosts showed no signs of panic,reports Efe.

The home side tried to seize the initiative in the second half, while Alaves opted for a patient attack that emphasized lateral passes in a bid to create openings for striker Christian Santos.

The Alcorcon faithful rose to their feet in the 81st minute after Unai Elguezabal let loose with a shot from the edge of the area, but the ball was deflected and rolled harmlessly to the right of Alaves goalkeeper Ortola.

Ibai Gomez, who came on for Alaves in the 87th minute, needed only two minutes to put his team up 1-0 with a low shot just inside the left post, followed by a second goal in stoppage time on a direct free kick.
