New York: World number1 Roger Federer of Switzerland was knocked out of the US Open after he lost to Thomas Berdych of Czech Republic in the quarterfinals matchup here yesterday.
Federer who enter the tournament as a favourite for the first time since 2003 failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the US Open.
Fedex who got a walkover to the last eight stages after his opponent Mardy Fish pulled due to health issues lost 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.
The sixth seeded Czech will now meet Andy Murray of Britain in the semi-finals who beat Marin Cilic of Croatia 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-0.
